Breaking the Grid: Concert Poster Reflection

by Thiago A

Before we introduced the use of images on InDesign, I was prompted to create a concert poster, 11" to 9.5", of an artist of my choice, which played a role in advertisement using grids while later breaking the grid. For my Concert Poster, I chose to make it out of Travis Scott, A Rapper who had recently dropped an album around the end of summer 2023. As required, I had put the info in that most Poster Advertisements would need such as the Artist/Album Name, The Date, Place, and Price. I first followed the Grid by following the Margins and Columns that we were given (A 6x6 Grid), To create organization and flow for the poster. This such as a follow-up/starter for the title, the title, the artist's name underneath, and then the location and time at the side of the album name. Those listed were following the grid as they set authority on the poster. My intention when creating this poster was to make the album name something that pops up and catches the viewer's eye. As we continue down, the track list mentions all of the songs of the album, while breaking the grid. The method I used was wrapping text around the Artist which came out as a smooth final finish at the end. One piece of criticism that I was given was to remove the extra text for the place and time, allowing less clutter.
